My guest’s for this year’s hunt included Jack Harris, Charlie Hinton, Don Ator (all from Baton Rouge), and Curtis Fincher, my nephew, who is a senior at Vandy in Nashville. It was Curtis’ first deer hunt. I have included a video I made shortly before Curtis and I left the stand on the morning of opening day. Things weren’t going well for Curtis. First, he took a bead on a shooter buck, squeezed the trigger, and the gun made a very loud CLICK! He had failed to chamber a round in his gun…Later, the same morning he had a 200 yard shot at a doe, and missed…When we broke for lunch, Curtis went to practice with his gun at 200 yards, he shot over and over and over again. That afternoon he managed to kill a doe at about 45 yards. Later, we saw a buck making his way through some brown weeds. I told Curtis to get on him but not to shoot until I could get my range finder and tell him how far away the deer really was. I told him 200 yards! Curtis smiled, I hit the grunt call, the deer froze and Curtis made a perfect shot!

I hope you enjoy the pictures.
